Status of fixing Linux 1.2.1 final?

Hi, has there been any progress with regard to identifying what broke between 1.2.1b and 1.2.1 final yet?

The default download should now be 1.2.1b. As I understand it, the main problem with 1.2.1 was that the default display depth was 32, which didn't work on people running in 16 bit colour modes. 1.2.1b tries a bit harder not to bomb out on the user in this case.
