[p1/b1] Disapearing Ground

Postby sysrq » Sun Dec 19, 2004 7:24 pm

I found this bug awhile ago but had to wait to get several win32 testers to confirm it was linux specific, it seems if you get close to the ground and look at certain areas of the map the ground just disappears. http://sysrq.tk/gallery/games/darwinia/bugs

Noooooo, you posted in the fresh forum :o

Anyway, I can confirm I get this bug as well, I was just waiting for sysrq to confirm that win32 testers don't get it.

Please can you see if you get the same behaviour with RenderLandscapeUsingDisplayLists = 1 (in the ~/.darwinia/preferences.txt) file.

Also what graphics card/drivers are you using?

Changing that option does fix it on my machine; GeForce Ti 4200 and:

Code: Select all

dave@Vigor54:~/darwinia> cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version
NVRM version: NVIDIA Linux x86 NVIDIA Kernel Module  1.0-6629  Wed Nov  3 13:12:51 PST 2004
GCC version:  gcc version 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809)

I have noticed another tiny area of pink (not the same bug), but my screenshots are coming out totally black. I'm not sure if either bug has been reported in the general forums, I can't see it on a quick glance.

Do the polygons flicker and do you get random polygons appearing from time to time as well?

Not that I've noticed (with either preferences.txt config), though I may have just missed it.

On both my nVidia GeForce 2 MX and GeForce 4 Ti 4800 using RenderLandscapeUsingDisplayLists = 1 fixed the glitch.

I believe I may be experiencing either this same bug or something related to it. When I get real close to a cliff wall, I can often see through parts of that wall. I'm using a Radeon Mobility 9000 and turning on RenderLandscapeUsingDisplayLists makes no difference.

Make sure you're not actually going "into" the land poly. Because thats just a function of turning clipping on or off and isn't really a bug. If, as i saw above, its just not displaying a face of a poly from afar then thats a different issue.

Well, if it is clipping (which sounds likely), it shouldn't allow me to get that close I don't think.

The only way I can get this close is by lowering myself down on top of a slope. Driving straight into it doesn't let me get that close.

If that doesn't happen then most likely its just the fact that the camera is allowed to pass through objects. (It could also be that they left out a face when they were modeling the object, but I figure that's highly unlikely since the demo's been out for so long.)
