What model Mac are you using: PowerMac G5 Quad (tower)
What processor are does your machine have, and how fast is it? G5, Quad 2.5GHz CPU
How much RAM do you have? 2G
What video card do you have? GeForce 6600, 256M VRAM
Is there anything else that makes your computer unique? A 23" LCD display. I was playing in windowed 1920x1200 mode.

The Mac runs 10.4.6 and all OS updates. Disk Utility reports no errors.

I was re-playing trickfred's EW1 mod. I was in the final level, and I had three squads wailing on some virii. When I say "wail," I mean that they were practically standing in the same spot, and I was madly clicking away with the grenades, and typing "1", "2", "3" with my other hand to maximize my firepower. Once before, in an earlier level in this mod, I was doing the same thing and got a similar crash.

There was a big difference this time. When I re-ran Darwinia, it was in full-screen mode but had reset to 800x600 (I'm guessing) and the game itself had been re-selected (as evidenced by the Garden being the only point in the sphere with me). All my profiles were gone, and I was NewUser again. The Mod button was gone.

I looked in the 'preferences.txt' file, and the screen res is what I originally had it set to, as well as:

Code: Select all

ModSystemEnabled = 1
Mod = EnemyWithinPart1

I haven't touched the files or run the game again, in case anyone wants a peek at them. I've made a copy and zipped it, to preserve the strange state.

Code: Select all

Thanks ShepFan, did the log file include the OS X Crashreport too? Sometimes that has more accurate backtrace information.

The info so far appears to indicate a problem with animating a one of the centipede creatures -- was one involved?

Hi John, I'm the author of the mod in which his game crashed - more details on the mod, and another crash he had in it, are here in this thread.

Both levels he crashed in did have centipedes placed in the level, and Triffids that were set to create them.

Hi John,

I sent the whole blackbox.txt file. I'll check Console to see if CrashReporter caught anything more. ... Nope, sorry. Crashdump reported writing Darwinia.crash.log, but there isn't one where it said it would be. Does the blackbox code delete the file after copying it to blackbox.txt? I've had several crashes, so there should be a record of Darwinia in Console. :?
