middle mouse button not working

I am running Darwinia under OS 10.3.8 using a Powerbook G4 12"867 w/ 640 mb ram. The game says that my middle mouse button can be used to zoom, but when I click my middle mouse button nothing happens (though of course I can use "z" to zoom). I am using a standard Logitech Cordless optical mouse and keyboard combo. The mouse has the standard 2 buttons, a scrollwheel, and a scrollwheel button.

there should be a preferences file, go in there and change controlmousebuttons to 3.
