"Souls" Loader runs very slowly

I like the preloaders - but have noticed a couple of things about them:

The one where the souls float upwards with various words attached ran very slowly on my machine (about 1fps) (1GHz powerbook, GeForce4MX)

It appears the only way to get out of the loader is to press escape. (This confused me initially)

I get this with every loader, on a G4 dual 800 with GeForce 2 MX. Some of them don't even exit for quite a while.
