Task manager closes when I move the mouse

When I bring up the task manager (holding [TAB]), even the slightest movement of the mouse closes it. This issue occurs both on WinXP (SP3) and Ubuntu(11.10).
This pretty much prevents me from playing!
Any ideas how to fix this?
