Darwinia patch 1.5.11 on Windows 7 - DirectX 9c

I searched the forum but couldn't find any posts about it, so I figured I'd offer this information to anyone else who encounters this issue.
Windows 7 has DirectX 11, but the installer for Darwinia patch 1.5.11 complains about DirectX 9c.
I have successfully used both 7Zip - http://ww.7zip.org/ - and Universal Extractor - http://legroom.net/software/uniextract - to extract the three patch files from the installer.
Once I extracted them from the installer, I copied darwinia.exe, language.dat, and patch.dat to the directory where I'd previously installed Darwinia 1.4.2 (making backup copies of the original files first!).
I rather like the new, reflective water and the grenade explosions (despite having purchased Darwinia when it was first released, I never thought to update beyond 1.4.2). I wonder what other visual goodies await...
