Bit of a wordy install problem...

Postby Artemis » Sat Oct 28, 2006 5:31 pm

Alright, so I wandered into a shop and saw Darwinia for £5.99. I couldn't resist.

I tried to install the game, but the first time the progress bar ran up to 100%, and then I got a message saying the InstallShield program had encountered a fatal error and had to exit. The installation didn't work.
Then I tried it again: this time, right at the start, it said the Installer had some kind of problem and I might not be able to uninstall the game properly. Sure enough, the game installed OK, but if I try to uninstall it I get an error saying "the log file 'E:\darwinia\uninst.isu' is not valid or the data has been corrupted. Uninstallation will not continue."

So, I've no intentions of uninstalling it anytime soon, but does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? It also says in the Remove Applications menu that the Darwinia program is only 28.8Mb...Even though it says it should be 60 on the box...

I'm using XP Home Edition with SP2, AMD 2100+, 1024Mb RAM, DirectX 9.0c and a Radeon 9800 SE.

Here is the rest of the guff you asked for in the Read This First topic:

Radeon 9800 SE AGP (0x4148) [128Mb]
ati2dvag.dll
Version 6.14.0010.6618 (English)
Date: 07/06/2006 22:09:10

Any help would be much appreciated!

Darwinia contains the game files on the CD, without the need for installing anything, luckily for you!

Pop in the CD, open up the disk (Right click>open. Don't auto run.) and copy the files in gamefiles/ to where ever you want the game to be.

Run the .exe.

Voilla!

Oh I know, but I was just wondering if anyone knew why it happened in the first place :)
