'Fatal Error'... but with no explanation!

It just comes up 'Fatal Error' and an OK button. I go to the blackbox to find out whats wrong and no reason is given.
1) I have all the latest patches.
2) My graphics and sound cards are up to date.

It doesn't help.
I don't have an ATI card anyhow. My graphics card is a Geforce 6800GT.
There must be a way to fix this. Is a patch comming out soon? This seems like very sloppy programme testing.
