Darwinia making broken mission saves

Postby The GoldFish » Sat Dec 17, 2005 7:30 am

Hi

Basically I've now seen 2 cases today/yesterday where users have had lines like this, saved by darwinia, in their instant units section of a level mission file (on receiver and generator)

The end of their mission files basically looked like this:

Squadie 2 4162.4 1718.8 1 0 0 50.0 0.0 0.0
Squadie 2 4162.4 1718.8 1 0 0 50.0 0.0 0.0
Squadie 2 4162.4 1718.8 1 0 0 50.0 0.0 0.0
Squadie 2 4162.4 1718.8 1 0 0 50.0 0.0 0.0
Squadie 2 4162.4 1718.8 1 0 0 50.0 0.0 0.0
Squadie 2 4162.4 1718.8 1 0 0 50.0 0.0 0.0
InstantUnits_EndDefinition

(objectives)

RunningPrograms_StartDefinition
# ==========================
Engineer 1 0 0 3735.49 734.81 3731.53 785.69 255
Squadie 6 0 4 4549.29 1560.25 4097.71 1599.85 75 4093.29 1591.02 75 4080.03 1564.53 75 4077.82 1560.12 75 4075.61 1555.70 75 4073.40 1551.29 75
RunningPrograms_EndDefinition

(one person had 2 engineers first in running, the other as above)

This 100% should not be happening (re the squadies in the instant units section). If this DOES happen, no matter what you do, when you click a mission to return to it the game will crash out (because inunit is not set, but they shouldn't even be there). At least one user reported fairly regular but random crashing, but I don't know about the other, and there may be at least several more cases of this occuring. One of them was certain that he had never been to generator, but I discovered officers with waypoints and running programs in the level, so I don't know if there's some sort of unit leakage across levels, or if he's crazy, or what.

So good luck figuring that one out, IV!

At least one more confirmed case of this, again on receiver (thanks stubbsy)

As discovered today, with a helping nudge from tfs, a mac user, this is 100%-for-sure reproducable by placing a squad in a radar dish, and having a mission save during transit (eg by leaving the level then attempting to return).

This bug has therefore existed since 1.2, when the 'units who go in radars will appear at the other end' feature was introduced.

I had the same error (I think). I left the area (Temple) with a squaddie unit in transit via a radar dish. I figured I may as well "save" my prorgress. When I tried to return, the game had an error. The black box didn't say what it entailed, and if it did, I wouldn't know where to look.
Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.

DARWINIA BLACK BOX REPORT

VERSION : win32-full-steam-v1.4

You can find the BlackBox Report.txt file in the main file of your Darwinia Game. In my case it is inside my Steam Dir.

Ok I found the black box report and all it had for the error was the crash from when steam didn't include the 4 rocket boom sound effect files. There was nothing about my recent crash.

Is there any way that someone can send me something like the basic level file for temple so that I could overwrite mine and restart the level? I'm unable to play due to this bug because temple is...broken.

Edit: YAY! I deleted the 2 temple files in my Darwininia folder and was able to reenter! I did have to restart the level, but that's fine with me.

Hi, yeah, sorry, this was more of a 'definitive statement to IV on what this bug is', not really a problem solving thread - AFAIK this is in the common darwinia bugs sticky.

Either way, in case anyone else comes along;

Easy solution - delete the offending mission file from your profile - well mean you have to restart the level.

Hard solution - deredshirt2 offending mission file and remove instant unit squadies - mean you can carry on from where you were.
