Refrences in darwinia

Postby Tortanick » Fri Apr 01, 2005 4:17 pm

Quite a few things in darwinia are history refrances to earlyer era's of gameing, E.G. the raytracer being a graphic demo released with computers to show what they could do.

As I am younger than IV and the people who recognise this could someone create a list of all the diffrent refrances. I'd hate to miss out and gameing history is intresting. Thanks :)

The lanscape, clouds and engineers are all from the movie Tron.
The bombers are from Space Invaders.
Dr. Sepulveda looks like Sir Clive Sinclair, inventor of the Sinclair Spectrum (and to a lesser extent, the C5).
68000 was an early CPU.
The squadies are from Syndicate.
The Triffid comes from Day of The Triffid.
The Trunk Ports are Stargates.
Sensible Software made Connon Fodder.

That's all I've got and most of it you probably knew.

68000 (or 68k) is still used on TI calculators, actually.

Which was the best computers movie ever.

P.S. Did you mean to spell it "LANscape"?

NightWind, this is a citizen's arrest. You are to be taken into custody for committing the crime of Assault with Intent to Pun. You will be tried in a court of law at the soonest possible opportunity. You have the right to remain silent. Any pun you say can, and WILL, be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney, though I doubt that one can be found that would be unscrupulous enough to defend you.

Yes.

Code: Select all

Exec "4E42"

Only works on the TI-89, however. I did a 3-month long project before, for the TI-89... Let's see if I can find it.

http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fi ... 23491.html

Yup, here it is, back when I used the name "Joseph Helpmann" rather than "Miah Helpmann"

I also see that none have dared try to do better than I, as well. Just as well. It has more than anyone would ever need to know anyway, lest they are going for a doctorate in Chemistry ;)

Yay me. I never submitted another TI-BASIC program since then. For the better, really. Viva la Onlink ;)

And Nightwind, if you're at all interested, I have an Exec library for the TI-89, should you want it...

Really, I was under the impression that Ti-89's used the Zilog Z-80A processer.

hehe, I'm not as clueless as I thought :D

I didn't know that squadies are from syndicate, played the game but I thought it was the same kind of squad but the design of the squaddie was unique.

I didn't know the 68000 was an actual CPU, did it have hardware problems like the spectrum?

Also did Sir Clive have problems like our Doc?

The 68000 is probably most widely known as the processor in the Commodore Amiga A500 and A2000. </geek>

OK, I'm sure the squaddies look like the guys from syndicate wars - long cloaks, big shoulder pads - it's either them or Joan Collins. Trouble is, I can't find a decent screenie on the net and I think I've chucked my SW box (though I must still have the manual somewhere).

I'll be interested later...once I get an actual 89. Stuck with an 83+ SE for now. I submit nothing but BASIC meself.

Isn't it "Viva l'Onlink"? Or if Onlink is a masculine proper noun, "Vive l'Onlink"? So that French class pays off after all...

Now you sound like Amy.
BTW, m did actually spell it "lanscape," and you misspelled "Assault."

68000 usage

Postby Hunter 1 » Sat Apr 23, 2005 1:34 am

You should also note that the 68000 was used in the Macintosh until it got replaced with the 68020, 68030, and 68040 processors (which in turn got replaced by the PPC units...)

Surprised the fact that a Sir Clive Sinclair lookalike is used in the game did not get mentioned in every preview/review!!! Or maybe it's just my age that I know what Sir Clive looks like! :)
A sign of PC gaming decline - etro gaming getting huge! :)
