I'm pretty sure that it would take longer create a map-editor only version of darwinia than to actually finish the multiwinia map editor.

It's good that they're at least showing signs of heading back into the past to add a final content release for Defcon, because something tells me they are going to target Darwinia afterwards and FINALLY finish the modding features mentioned here: http://forums.introversion.co.uk/darwin ... php?t=3657

This also gives me hope that after Darwinia, the Multiwinia map editor will be released at the same time (if not a little bit later), allowing for the finalization of the three games.

This makes me wonder, are they going to remove assault from the pc version of Multiwinia, or will it be kept?

No, and to quote Jelco:
I have no clue about IV's plans, but my personal guess is that you should just give up all hope for an official patch. I think the small group with its source code mods might get you something like this, but if you're not willing to pay for it, I'd start moving on.
