Yeah. I set my player name to "00Davo" every time I play, and next time, it says "NewPlayer" again. I've tried setting the preferences.txt to "00Davo", as well - as soon as I restart Multiwinia, it changes the file back to say "NewPlayer". Weirdly, my preferred colour is correctly recorded, as are all my other settings. It's just the name being wiped.
I'm running "retail.iv.1.2.1" using Wine on my Ubuntu PC. (Incidentally, I'm currently running Multiwinia using the --NoProfile switch to keep it self-contained, although I still had the problem before doing that.)

If you set your name midgame, it doesn't save, which I'm sure I reported (oops if not).
I can't imagine why the game would be resetting your name on startup, if you have put it in the preferences file. Unless it's loading it from the preferences.txtr in the dat. I'm going to download the latest version in Wine to see if it's a Wine bug. (Conviniently, today I chose not to boot to WIndows)
