Incredibly Low Framerate (Vista HP 64bit)

Postby Adelmo » Sun Sep 21, 2008 7:39 pm

I'm getting a really bad framerate as the game loads (the screen with the spinning darwinian), like one frame every 5-10 seconds. Let it run for about 20 ins and got to the screen to enter activation code (still at 1 frame/10 secs) before giving up.

I have Vista Home Premium 64, an 8800GTX and all driver updates (for everything)

I have heard some stuff about poor OpenGL support in NVIDIA's Vista drivers, is this what's going on?

Anyone else got similar problems/tips?

Yes, I'd say so. Go to NVIDIA's website and get the newest driver from there. You probalby have one from Windows update.

Get nvidia 177.xx, which ought to be the latest. I do not believe this is a problem directly attributable to x64 Nvidia with latest drivers.

I get exactly the same with 175.19 (WHQL) and 177.92 (BETA) :(

On the subject of low FPS I wonder what the recommended system specs are...you know to avoid low frame rates on the more intensive 4 player maps ?

Switching off my multi-monitor setup seems to have fixed it, runs fine now. 8)

Edit: for anyone who's found this thread, switching back to 175.19 brings the problem back (though not quite as bad), so the upgrade to 177 was needed (not as stable on my system) as well as disabling the other monitors.

Edit #2: That's not true, installing 175 simply re-enabed one of the monitors without me noticing, it runs fine when disabled again.
