New Coop Game Idea- Tidal Wave

Postby Feud » Mon Sep 22, 2008 12:17 am

The idea of this would be that all players would be on the same team, tasked with surviving for a set amount of time. They would have fortifications, choke points, etc, to aid them. The opponent would be ever increasing swarms of CPU controlled DGs. These swarms would start as smallish and not well coordinated, but as the game went on the numbers and abilities (rockets, formations, Armour, etc) would steadily increase.

What do you guys think?

I think it would bring my computer to its knees. ;)

Other than that, it's not a bad idea!

I must say this is one of the best ideas so far i've seen in this forum section.
But isn't it really just assault with cpu's? Except for the increasing amounts of stuff like turrets they'll have, it'll just be assault with cpu's, or am i wrong?

Yep, sounds just like Assault. You can get the increasing force of enemies by making the map big and giving all the crates to the AI. Three defending players and one attacking AI should be feasible without source code changes, only the players need to actively select the defender role.

However, defending on Assault is the least interesting role in the whole game (at least to me; you just sit around, keep your turrets manned, collect the odd crate and mow down the occasional attack wave), so I don't quite see the point of this.

Assault is so funny, and your idea sounds like assault mode, with every human player against a hard cpu !

Defending in assault mode is really fun to me, you have to launch your airstrikes with a good timing, and place all your ants nests strategically, it's not boring at all, imo :)

I have had thoughts not far from this.

I approve!

An all-out coop could have the possibility of being really great, especially for those who want to play Multiwinia but are not competitionally inclined.

You know, the game supports six teams, so if IV were to do a bit of extra coding for such a game mode, you might be able to have 5-person coop.
Which would be amazing.

It does support 6 teams. The problem is, does the netcode.

Survey says... maybe?

This game mode should also have an option: "Enemy is futurewinians" or "Enemy is evilwinians"...

It would just be great...

I think the idea of the enemy being some FWG or EWG is a good idea
(some games i've been in turn into that anyway lol  )
i also like the tower defence idea
as to the original idea, it sound like it could be replicated by just tweaking the settings on Assault
