The Red AI

Postby Kuth » Sat Sep 20, 2008 5:03 am

I know most of the players here probably don't waste their time with Single player, but I'm one of those shy people who usually plays games solo, only rarely venturing out into the internet world to knock heads with people I can never see face to face (that, and my connection is iffy at home).

Though playing quite a few games against AI players (usually free for all, three players), I keep noticing that the red AI typically overruns and destroys the other AI players. It's only ever Red that does this, I've maybe once seen Yellow get the upper hand and push the other player off the map. Still, at least twice out of the....twelve? games I've played so far, at times it's down to me and Red.

I'm not sure if it's programmed into the game for the AI to be more aggressive or not, but it's just something I noticed.

So this isn't a complete "yes I've seen that blahblah" thread, to put some use to it: have you noticed any strange or unusual behavior behind the AI players, for those of you who play SP?

I play a lot of single player, but haven't noticed that yet. Will have to pay more attention in the future.

It makes sense, though. Green and red were the first Darwinians at war, and red had the virus on their side. Maybe it made them stronger?

I'd think more agressive. Sometimes I feel sorry for the green darwinians... last game I played (as blue), marched in to stop a red advance against the greens.

According to the info on one of the maps (the only real source of backstory at the moment) the Red darwinians were able to regain free will and shake off the bonds of the virus.

Heck, one of the maps says that the greens saved the reds from extinction (edit: From the virus no less).

I never noticed it, but that's because red is my favorite colour so I'm always red :)

There shouldn't be any difference in any of the team AI (certainly not anything decided by team colour) so anything you are seeing is coincidental.

So much for "the red ones go faster" ;)

My findings show that the reds may be aggressive, but incredibly stupid. :D

That said, I've never managed to win a match as Defence on Fort Zulu yet -
the Red AI on Hard is pretty good there, and I usually only last until the last two minutes.
Kind of the effect Left 4 Dead is suppopsed to have - it's almost more fun to lose at the last gasp than win. Almost.
