Hardware intensity?

Postby DarkAvenger » Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:49 pm

I'm going to be getting a laptop soon. Not made for gaming I'l tell you that. Mainly an accessory. But theres no harm in trying things with it. I assume the graphics card will be quite low end (But there's not too much graphics to process so I assume this is ok), it has 1 gb of RAM and 1.6 ghz dual core

Could I run this at least decently on the lowest settings?

Low end on the graphic's card? Not a good assumption to make. Also, the processor sounds a bit weak. It might work, I couldn't tell you.

To be honest, not many people will be able to tell you if it will work. Best bet? Try the game/demo on it.

Considering the single-core affinity thing you need to do to make it not fuck up, I'd say 2 player maps only, make it your goal in life to kill ant nests, and don't even think about playing Assault outside of single player.

I play on a laptop with integrated graphics, but the specs are quite a bit higher than what you listed, and i'm stuck playing on lowest settings. Don't get your hopes up.

I have an asus f3 series with a 2.2Ghz dual core cpu, nvidia 8600m GS graphics, and 2 gb of ram. I can run multiwinia quite nicely at max quality and max res with AA on at the driver level. I've even been able to dial down the graphics and play two instances of multiwinia at the some time on two screens (providing i assign a different core to each game)! What a way to cheat :P

My friend has a similiar setup, but with 1.6ghz cpu. He can still run multiwinia on max, except for entities, which he has on medium. The point of this is to say that a laptop ofthe specs you mentioned would be fine, provivded you ditched the on-board graphics card.

I think I found the laptop online here
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Aspire-10- ... B001Q3LXDS

Almost positive this is the one I'm getting soon. It is extremely small and definately not made to play games. Like I said I'm not really going to be using it for that purpose. I'm gonna be using it more for school.

I think it only has an onboard graphics card so yeah. Worth a try on it though.

Bah, get a Dell. I have one and it's lasted me this long. I still use it to this day. XD

I have a Samsung NC10 (one of the alternatives Amazon suggest) which is virtually the same in terms of specs. While Multiwinia will run, you're going to have a hard time actually playing it.

Get an asus c90 series, it's the only laptop worth getting (if you can find one)

i would recommend a IBM machine "Certified Used Equipment". Been buying Certified Used Equipment from them for years and never had a problem.
Just got a desktop from them the other day:

Intel P4 3.0Ghz w/ HT
1gig ram

for only $229.00 and i can't complain on that. shoved in my old NVidia FX5500 and MW runs smooth as sh*t

Now i have to get rid of my old IBM machine :(
