Honestly. When I was young, I'd get games to see the new effects and lighting... now I just watch the demoscene releases on pouet.net and see the effects 2-4 years before everyone else. Or I code and make them better in my own demos! I can't watch the same effect for more than 30 seconds without getting bored, anyway. I don't want to pay someone huge cash for a crappy doom game just to see the same effects I got for free with fx composer, rendermonkey, and the dxsdk samples, and saw ages ago in a 64k Conspiracy or Fairlight demo.
Give me a team of coder/designers dedicated to solving the very non-trivial problem of _creating a fun experience_. Would Rogue be more fun with an expensive DVD of high res textures, animated models, and 30 second load times whenever you changed rooms?

I've known it for years too, it was just a joke! I mean I am learning HLSL but you need that even to make darwinias graphics properly.
