graphics are for demos and games for small children

Postby AtomicPlayboy » Mon Feb 26, 2007 11:49 pm

Honestly. When I was young, I'd get games to see the new effects and lighting... now I just watch the demoscene releases on pouet.net and see the effects 2-4 years before everyone else. Or I code and make them better in my own demos! I can't watch the same effect for more than 30 seconds without getting bored, anyway. I don't want to pay someone huge cash for a crappy doom game just to see the same effects I got for free with fx composer, rendermonkey, and the dxsdk samples, and saw ages ago in a 64k Conspiracy or Fairlight demo.

Give me a team of coder/designers dedicated to solving the very non-trivial problem of _creating a fun experience_. Would Rogue be more fun with an expensive DVD of high res textures, animated models, and 30 second load times whenever you changed rooms?

My only comment:

If I wanted photorealism, I'd look at a photo.

It's a statement IV have been making for many years and yet you only just realise it now?

I've known it for years too, it was just a joke! I mean I am learning HLSL but you need that even to make darwinias graphics properly.

Hey.

I just want to say that the graphics in darwinia are probably the most beautiful I've ever seen in a computer game.

Also - I hate screensavers (with fancy pants) in general but I'd probably pay for an introverted one, that's how deep my love is.

Peace.

seriously... seriously... darwinia screen saver. just set 2 computers at it for a while. i would unhook my mouse and keyboard. better yet, make a darwinia winamp plugin so they dance around to music simultaneously! ... wait, nevermind

Considering the overall attitudes of IV, you would probably hire one or two more devs and use the rest of the money for pizza and other essentials while making Subversion.
