Yea I heard about this game months ago. I never bothered to check it out in motion until now. Looks pretty cool.
Spore is the only game I'm realy looking forward to be released. Every other game of the last few years all seem to be so unoriginal. Maybe IV can prove me wrong with Defcon?
I think EA gave Will enough space with The Sims and that's turned into EA's biggest cash cow. I'm sure Will has got enough clout to get the money and space he needs from EA to make the Spore he wants. But I doubt Spore will sell that well.

It might look and seem like a cool game idea, but that doesn't mean there is enough substance in the idea to make a good game. And even if it's a good game doesn't mean it'll sell.martin wrote:Phydaux wrote:But I doubt Spore will sell that well.
what!?! That looks absolutely immense! All of my friends love it too... when does it come out?
- How many people dream of living a seperate/another life or being voyeuristic, and controling others? Most people - hence The Sims success.
- How many people like a bit of the above with social interaction? Most - hence the ever increasing popularity in MMORPGs
- How many people think they could do a better job playing/managing a football team? Loads - The Championship Manager/FIFA/PES series' etc.
- How many people want to be the hero in their faviorate comic/film/TV series? Loads - There are tons of crappy tie-ins that are appalling peices of game shit that sell well because of the link.
- How many people dream of creating a galactic spanning civilisation from a single spore? Very few.

Supposedly there are some evolutionary lines that just won't work, and some that are 'optimal'. So it's basically a graphical version of a 'choose your own adventure' book. Find the right optimal pattern, and then the game will be forever boring as you repeat it ad nauseum, unless you like trying out combinations you know are going to die off.
Ultimately, sounds disappointing.
AFAIK, IMHO, YMMV.

Kinda how I imagined the game to be. I hope it proves me wrong.trickfred wrote:Supposedly there are some evolutionary lines that just won't work, and some that are 'optimal'.
