Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival

Postby Chris » Wed Jun 29, 2005 10:18 am

Introversion Software will be in Edinburgh on the 11th and 12th August for the Interactive Entertainment Festival. We are delighted to announce that Darwinia has been nominated for the Edge Award and we will be there in person to look pleased for the cameras when we don't win. Our game is up against such classics as Rome:Total War and Half Life 2, so the odds are slim, but we're going to enjoy ourselves and hopefully shake hands with as many EA executives and Industry Veterans as possible.

Unfortunately the award ceremony is for industry types only, but we will be doing a presentation in the Game Screenings event which IS open to the ticket-buying public. Andy and Mark will be standing up in front of the crowds to talk about Introversion Software and to show the game Darwinia and some of the design decisions that went into its creation. We've been receiving a number of offers to do standup talks and presentations about our company ever since the Imperial College games event in May, so maybe this is something we will be doing more of in the future.

It came to my attention yesterday that our old community section doesn't really do a very good job of representing the community that is slowly forming, and that it was time for an overhall. I've created a new community page that includes screenshots and information about the top fansites that exist for Darwinia. In future I will try to keep it a little more up to date.

Darwinia was recently reviewed by GameTunnel, scoring 9 out of 10. Click here to read the review.

We're currently working on a new mini-project (Darwinia related), and we're hoping to announce it during July. We will need your help to beta test this new mini-project, and we'll be taking applications for beta testing positions soon. We've decided we will need to rebuild the beta testers list, as most people on it are no longer responding when we place things up for testing (eg the 1.2 patch, which was tested by just 30 people out of around 600). We will accept beta applications from anyone - regardless if you've beta tested for us or not. Hopefully we will start the process mid July. Please have patience and don't send us applications just yet.

Imagine the looks they'd get if they did that... talk about a Kodak moment...

I would have tested the patch... if I had the money to buy the game in the first place. Not that it's expensive, it's just hard financial times(For a long time) and I wasn't going to pirate the game to test the patch, I'd be too tempted to keep it and that's a road I'm just not going to go down.

*Wondering if the new project will be an expansion...*

/me pulls out a rocking chair, grabs a beer, lays a shotgun across his lap, and waits for the damn kids to play on his lawn.

I'd love to beta test anything new you have in the pipeline, so please don't take me off the list because I don't post much anymore. I would have posted about the 1.2 beta, but luckly I found no problems!

Ditto, I tested and found no problems at all. If there was problems I would have complained loudly.
