defcon reeeaaaaaaaalllllly slow on ubuntu
So,
Defcon runs like crap on Ubuntu. We're talking like 2 or 3 fps max. It's painful to use the menu to quit.
The sad thing is, openarena is really quick.
Oh, and I have an i910.
Going to test the windows version under wine now...

i910 can power DEFCON sufficiently!
The key setting that you need to change is Smooth Lines. Disable this, and your frame rate will increase tenfold. It won't look quite as good, but you'll otherwise be able to play perfectly. Beyond that, I can pretty much do any setting I want (it's currently 1440*900 with most other pretty effects on).

doesn't run very well with me, gutsy gibbon and i945 laptop...
doesn't work at all fullscreen and have to disable smooth lines for windowed mode
works perfectly fine with winXP on same machine *sigh*
guess i'll have to keep the dual-boot setup.... *another sigh*
but i guess it could be my installation - i'm a complete linux noob - but willing to learn

Hehe, I can imagine... the ATI drivers on linux are terrible, and even worse for pre-8000 cards - frglx doesn't even run on them, you're left with the OSS driver

(although this seems to be entirely unrelated - but I still can't fix it )

If you have a newer card, recent fglrx are outperforming catalyst drivers
