DEFCON doesn't run on Debian Sid? - FIXED, I'm an idiot....

Postby adolson » Wed Jun 13, 2007 4:10 pm

I'm running 32-bit debian Sid, and Defcon doesn't start for me... I am pretty sure it's trying to set my screen size to something I don't use, but what I want to know is how to start it in windowed mode from the command line? Since I don't have a config file created by the point that it bails out, how can I make a config file if there is no command-line parameters?

I have tried using the tarball and the Loki installer both with the same results.

dana@jadis:~$ defcon
Failed to set screen modeterminate called without an active exception
/usr/local/bin/defcon: line 46: 4739 Aborted $here/lib/defcon.bin.x86 "$@"
dana@jadis:~$

and calling it directly:

dana@jadis:~/defcon/defcon-v1.42$ ./lib/defcon.bin.x86
Failed to set screen modeterminate called without an active exception
Aborted
dana@jadis:~/defcon/defcon-v1.42$

Thanks for any help!

Try creating a file called ~/.defcon/preferences.txt and putting the following lines in:

Code: Select all

ScreenWidth = 800
ScreenHeight = 600
ScreenWindowed = 1
ScreenColourDepth = 32
ScreenRefresh = 60
ScreenZDepth = 24

Defcon should use the default settings for everything else. Obviously you can change the above to suit your computer :)

That didn't work either... Same exact thing.

Interesting to note that this also happens with Uplink, fresh off the CD-ROM with the latest patch (Loki installer version) installed... EDIT: Nope, it's different, actually... Uplink is segfaulting..

I hope I can fix these problems... :\

Do you got direct rendering working on your box?

Does glxgears or other OpenGL programs run?

For Uplink try the latest version (currently 1.55), it gives more verbose error message.
