Defcon not combatible with latest drivers and Windows 10

Postby zTangyMarshmallows » Fri Jul 31, 2015 3:21 pm

Hey so I've encountered this problem before where Defcon wont properly display it's graphics when I updated my graphics driver, when I open it up I see a blur of the front screen where all the pixels are messed up, I tried reinstalling the game and nothing happened, does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks for your imput, but I think I found a better way, I noticed that if I had another program like my browser minimized in front of defcon all the graphics were fine, so I proceeded to keep doing that repeatedly until I got into the options tab where I could change my game to a windowed display instead of full screen 1 click at a time because every time I clicked out of my browser into defcon the graphics would get fucked up again so I had to repeat until I was able to make the game windowed

Great.

BTW, In the Defcon installation directory there's a file named preferences.txt which has:

Code: Select all

ScreenWidth = 1600
ScreenHeight = 900
ScreenWindowed = 1
...

Changing ScreenWindowed to 1 there before starting the game would probably have done the trick too.

Do you have AMD or NVIDIA? I'm using Windows 10 with newest AMD drivers and Defcon works fullscreen no problem.

Hey, Vsj, I can't find the preferences.txt file in the file location. And it looks like this:

I have been having the same problem, hence my absence. The game will also refuse to remember my auth code. I open DEFCON, enter it then play a game, then close DEFCON. When I re-open it my auth code is asked for again and I have to re-enter it. I believe it is because the "data" file is not in the program files x86. The preferences are also missing. I have tried re-installing the game and using programs to try and locate the data file but it is nowhere.

Right click Defcon and run as administrator. I think that will fix the problem of Defcon not remembering settings and auth key.

Probably never? The game is 9 years old, after all.
