Office mode Variable time?

Postby TehPwnage » Sun Feb 26, 2006 3:12 pm

In the interview, it says that office mode will be played in complete real time, which means games will last about eight hours.

Can we still variate the speed in office mode? If I wanted to play during a two hour class, for example, would I be able to set the speed to 4x and then still use the panic key and be alerted and all those good things?

Does anyone know for sure? Speculation is expected, but I'd prefer to know the actual answer

Everyone knows the same thing you do, so speculation is all we've got.

I say that yes, it can be altered.

I seem to recall something from one of the interviews. It stated that multiplayer games would be played at the slowest speed requested by any player. I would think that office mode would be subject to that, as well.

office mode may just be the name of a specific set of settings
i.e. it would set the game to play on real-time and such

...and it has the boss key, the all important boss key.

I just landed a six month job that'll have me crammed up in a small room with nothing but a computer for company. I need Defcon to get out on time ;)

Link the boss key command up to the stealth button from Thinkgeek.com. Push it with your foot, the boss never even needs to see you do anything.

Be interesting to see how fast it minimises, because the average work PC isnt going to be top end, and if it takes five mins to minimise, then the boss will see...

I doubt it would take too long to minimize, if it takes up as much memory as Darwinia or Uplink (which wasn't much in my case)

As I recall, he hack Defcon out in a day while working on Darwinia. I don't remember him saying that it was being worked on before Darwinia, but the news post that talked about it was confusing...

Defcon was made in some hardcore coding sessions during the development of Darwinia, and was originally going to be a b-side on the Darwinia disk. However, Chris decided it wasn't good enough in it's current state and left it asside, and later started developing it into the third game. The currently planned 4th game was started before Darwinia, but is currently on hold.
