I fixed it. Turns out that the CD had got scratched, so the sounds.dat file got screwed. I copied sounds.dat from my bro's installation, and it works fine :).

:o

The MD5SUM for sounds.dat is the same as the one on the CD. I'm installing from a CD I got from my brother, so I can't download anything from the site. Is there any other way of getting a valid sounds.dat? Would it be legal if I BitTorrented an ISO of it, seeming as I already have the actual version?

Can't find sounds.dat!?

OK, I got the demo working, so I got me the full version. The install goes without a hitch, but then it says that it cannot find the sound resources, and that this is most likely because sounds.dat is not in the working directory. But it is! Does anybody else know what's going on? PS. Sorry for havi...

w00t!

I got it fixed! I searched for the error and it turned out that I had to give the chip more video RAM (i810 has no RAM anyway), by adding

Code: Select all

Videoram 16384
to xorg.conf . I can now play the game at about 10 or 15 fps - those little red darwinians are dead meat now!

Uh . . .

These jokes are so bad, I may have to come and murder you in the night. But, as they say, the pun is mightier than the sword  .

Errors, or just plain slowness?

I'm running the Linux Demo, and I get about 5fps. 10 if I look directly up at the sky. I have a 733MHz i686 processor, with integrated graphics (i810), so I'm not really used to being able to play anything more than a Lemmings clone (seriously!). My brother told me about Darwinia, so I gave it a try...
