well... if your project doesnt include 3d stuff, C++ isnt more powerful than .NET or java, because due the dynamic nature of java and .NET, you can do things in those languages you wont be able to do that easy in c++.

that may be, main-thing ruby misses is an JIT but hey, for 95% of things the speed is ok :) Certainly, I develop mainly in Perl these days which is certainly not the fastest language out there. Perl is good for web applications isn't it? Not sure about the suitability of it in general purpose progr...
