I wonder how you do that? Can you explain to me please? Since all you know about them is their nickname...

Another thing that's common to all Uplink agents is that they all pay fees to Uplink...

*shrug* Has a point.

It is silly that the bank transfer records only result in arrests and mission failure when it's the player who's received the money. Or that a bank will cheerfully not notice that 1+M credits have arrived in somebody's account without a matching amount of credits in terms of logged transactions. How...

Remember that your employers are saps (sort of).

Remember that you can negotiate to get part of the payment upfront. It may be possible for you to accept many missions at 50% upfront, thus giving you the capital to buy more interesting stuff. If not, your employers will be fairly patient. And of course, pay attention to any 'trace an unauthorized ...

Re: Trace a Hacker or Transfer

I'm having difficulty with these tracing missions. I've read the guide at 'guide.modlink' yet, it seems like something's not working. The LOG-undeleter doesn't yield any results and when I lookup the IP address that's BEFORE the given timeframe, sometimes I get Public Access servers or central main...

Mostly, luck with missions.

Also, do you know of a quick way to find out which accounts have large amounts of credits? I'd rather make a large transaction than to steal from multiple accts. Once, I made off with 400 grand and my rating jumped like 3 levels, but when I do average transactions, no jump comes. Jump on any 'trace...

Hrrrrrm. Perhaps.

One other approach that suggests itself, but is only doable if (1) they happen to have a personal computer on the network, and (2) you know what the IP address is. Framing them might work. A second approach that comes to mind would only apply to those who happen to be Uplink agents, requires a hack ...

*shrug* Somewhat there.

You can already betray your fellow Uplink agents in a few ways. 1- Sell an almost-complete list of them, matching agent ID to real name. 2- Cooperating with ARC to bring down the global network (which ends the game) 3- Ripping off their bank accounts (unlike you, they all bank at other banks, rather...

Did you already finish the tutorial mission?

If not, and you don't do anything else to increase your rank (which is probable; some things can raise your rank even if nobody asked you to do them, like stealing money, but you don't have the resources to even try that at the start), you will not be of sufficient rank to accept anything. If you fi...

And if you're impatient...

...and you really want the money, you don't have to wait for the missions -- nothing says you can't hit the banks on your own initiative, although without known account numbers you do need admin access.

The game can change sysadmins...

...and the same person might become the practically-universal administrator, if you've been putting everybody else away. Very convenient if you need to hit multiple mainframes in one go, since you'll need fewer voice recordings the fewer admins there are left.

Thanks very much (great guide as well by the way)! Some more: 1. How to put someone in jail? I thinki I can do it from the Criminal server, but it won't do it... What do you mean by "it won't do it"? If it's objecting to you when you push 'Authorise Arrest', read the dialogue box that tel...

Misc notes

Frequency: Yes, fairly routine among players who don't care to maximize challenge later on (because once you have top-end everything, much of the rest of the game becomes trivial). Some players loot every account in a bank in one go. News: any sort of poking at a bank -- even starting a password bre...

Either retire, or get caught.

Basically, you've exhausted the scripted events. You can continue to perform ordinary missions, explore servers you haven't yet visited, set strange tasks for yourself like ensuring that every other living Uplink agent is in jail... but the game won't throw anything else at you.

You can catch 'em all, actually.

What do Uplink agents all have in common? They pay fees to Uplink. ...and how might you find out who pays fees to Uplink? Yes, it's tedious, but if you crack admin on *every* bank but Uplink's own, write down all the account numbers, break into those accounts, and check the statements looking for th...
