Last minute stealth nomination: Super Mario Galaxy 2 for best game and best Wii game > 20$, mainly because it's the only new game in that price range I picked up this year, and only because it was on sale shortly after release. Err. I haven't actually played it all that much (I'm easily distracted), but so far, it has been fun, and it's just packed with interesting game elements and polished.

All right, voting time! Here's how it will work (heavily modified the original plan based on the feedback):
- All categories are going to be decided using instant runoff voting.
- Voting will be initially secret (so late voters can't gamble the system better than early voters), but for transparency, when the results are published, so will be the votes.
- Votes will be cast as lists sent via PM to me. One list for each category you want to vote on, like that:
Only nominated entries can be voted on. First item is your primary vote, second your secondary, and so on. You can also make entries share a place:
During each round, if you have N not yet eliminated entries tied for first place, each will receive 1/Nth vote from you.
- Also vote on whether you want votes to be secret or not. If more than five people vote for secret polls, I'll assign those random IDs known only to me and the voter and publish their votes using the IDs. The list of people voting secretly also will be published so I can't make IDs for nonexistent people up. If the majority votes for secret polls, everyone will receive the secret ID treatment.
- Eligible for voting are all forum accounts with 10 or more genuine posts on these forums. Well known alternative accounts are excluded. I myself will not vote, for obvious reasons.
- If you don't want to bother with game categories, just send one big game preference list, I'll extract the individual category lists from there.
- Unlike nominations, you don't have to have played a game to vote for it; you should obviously be careful about putting a non-played game above a played game, but it's your vote.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah. Winners from each category will be determined independently. If a subcategory is won by the obvious winner from a broader category, a second run of the subcategory is performed with the previous winner eliminated early, the winner of that will be the 'Honorable Mention'. And be mentioned first. Hah!
- If an elimination round ends with all candidates tied for elimination, they all win.
- Categories with only a single nomination will not be voted on.
- Voting closes when the UTC calendar jumps to February 4th.
One detail question remains to be answered: in the elimination rounds, how are ties for last place handled? Eliminate them all? Or do a virtual reverse runoff (eliminate all the non-worst candidates, recount, repeat until only equally bad candidates remain, eliminate those)? Probably the latter.
I'll be using some python script to do the counting, please help by keeping your vote lists in the
format. No dot after the number, no # before it, no quotes around the title. Thanks.
The next post will be all the nominations again, prepared for your vote. Just copy it, sort the nominations, give them numbers, then PM to me.

Vote both above and below the line, that way the smarmy bastards don't mess with your rightful vote and you don't fall foul of the convoluted system!
...Oh wait, wrong election....
Though it's similar in there's a lot of candidates I don't know about and I still have to find some way of ranking them comparatively. Thankfully there's no racist nationalist or communist parties to rank

Reminds me: if all games you put into your vote are eliminated, you'll act as a non-voter for the remaining elimination rounds (or as if you had placed all the remaining games as tied last, the effect is the same). So if you really don't care about a couple of games and don't know how to rate them, but are reasonably sure the ones you do know were better, just leave the rest out.vanarbulax wrote:Though it's similar in there's a lot of candidates I don't know about and I still have to find some way of ranking them comparatively. Sorry for the delay, stuff came up. Well, it was planned to come up, but I underestimated the impact on my time.
That, and... there weren't exactly many votes. Three, to be precise. And no two votes agreed on anything. So celebrations are not really in order, the results lack significance. Here they are. All listed results are ties.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
Best PS 3 game for 20$ or less

Sorry for putting you through the ranking procedure when it ultimately turned out to be pointless.

I only played a portion of what I ranked, I generally just ranked what I played then ranked what I hadn't by my impression of them or general consensus. I justify it this way, if I haven't got around to playing it, the game would probably rank low on my personal list if I did play it.
I'm saddened that the best I could come up with this year for ps3 was Red Dead. Looks like it will change this year, with a lot more high quality odd-ball stuff which I was what bought the system for in the first place.
