A set of high resolution coastline data is now available for Defcon on the MODLIST.
Download and consult the readme for installation instructions.
Enjoy! |

This mod must hog up system resources like no others!
Anyway, yes, it's indeed been added to the modlist:
Download
http://defcon.zanzer7.net/downloads/mods/hires.zip (1702kb)
A few notes/suggestions, though;
You might want to add a mod.txt and screenshot.bmp file to this mod. They are ingame mod loader description and screenshot, respectively.
~
Also, how about 'completing' this mod with a hires blur.bmp, too?

A few screenies:
hires1.jpg
hires2.jpg
~
And as a last note, I took the liberty of rearchiving it in proper "mods/hires/data" folder paths.
I really like how Denmark is now more than 11 lines XD |

You forgot to move all the files into mods/hires/, though, it's all on the mods/ level
This certainly looks awesome, but it makes it awfully hard to see stuff clearly when zoomed out. Not your fault, of course, it's the way the coastlines are rendered. |

As for performance, I don't suffer from any noticable lags. I have a 2 year old system (AMD, ~2.8 GHz, 1Gb RAM) and a GeForce 8800GS. It runs smooth as silk. However, it may ruin the gameplay on low-end computers.
I dont see why it would obscure the units..., but there may be a point there that I am not aware of.
I have some other coastlines that are lower in resolution, but still a lot better than the default. If anybody is interested I could compile them and upload as well.
Thanks for your comments!

Heck yeah, I did, good thing you noticed it. I want credit for actually MAKING the mods/hires folder though
And about the screenshots:

Off-topic, but I'm always impressed when people actually use the word "respectively" correctly.
Nice job!
Like the mod as well.

Here's how an example game looks for me when zoomed out:
It's 1280x1024, antialiased, smoothed lines, default style (and radar range mod). Reducing the alpha of the coastlines in the style helps the overview, but then the lines look too thin when zoomed in. Performance suffers, but is still OK on my 6800; it should only depend on the graphics card, since the coastlines should be uploaded to it via an OpenGL display list, and the CPU never needs to touch them again.
/me wonders where you got a 8800 from two years ago

They are. There's four display lists used in Defcon, coastlines are one.
