People seemed to like my last mod, so I decided to make another. After two grueling weeks, I give you;

The Mars and Earth Mod
Current version: 1.1 (September 3, 2007) Link (962 KB)

I also want to release just the unit graphics as their own mod: Link (220 KB)

I'll check back here occasionally to see if I overlooked any bugs.

One bug I can't really help:
Some cities like Vancouver and Montreal in Canada and Nice in France just don't want to display, and I don't know why. I tried making them capitals and turning the cities per territory up to 500 but all that does is make another city nearby disappear when they do decide to display. I don't know why this happens.

In one corner, we have a planet split between three alliances and home world to humanity, Earth:

In another corner, we have the satellite to the previous planet, terraformed and home to hundreds of millions, and also split up among the same three alliances, The Moon:

And finally, we have the Red Planet, with whom we probably wouldn't have this mod, Mars:

I went a bit further in this mod, as I also changed the graphics and some text of the units:

Airbase: (Spaceport)

Submarine: (Stealth Missile Frigate. Cloaks when hidden, uncloaks to launch.)

Silo:

Sam:

Radar: (Subspace Sensor Array)

Nuke:

Fighter: (Interceptor)

Carrier:

Bomber:

Battleship:

Some Screenies:

The territories of Earth:

The territories of Mars:

Uncloaked Frigates Launching:

Allthough they just look like five floating nukes when cloaked, you can see the frigates if you look real hard:

A swarm of bombers:

Earth and Mars coming to fisticuffs:

This mod can also be used to realistically nuke arcs over the arctic:

An overview of the whole map:

Wow, that looks amazing, nice work!
I'm not too sure about having three territories being able to place stuff on the moon (surely radar could see everything), but you know what they say, don't knock it till you've tried it.

*goes off to try it*

Wow that is INCREDIBLE. The graphics are top notch and the game play with the shared moon looks extremely interesting. The whole mod seems revolutionary but I like the moon idea the most because it adds new strategy to the game!

I really really like this mod, and the moon as the extra earth territory makes it very interesting. Looking at the earth from that angle gives me a headache though Confused Laughing

Only problem I have with it is the layout of mars. The smallest of the territories is too small to fit most of your units in, and the medium one can fit all but a few. If that could be fixed I could see some interesting Earth vs Mars battles though. Keep up the good work Very Happy

I do agree with you about some of the Martian territories being too small, but the reason I did that is because I wanted all of the planets/moon to scale. Earth is 300 pixels in diameter in the map, Mars is 150, and the Moon is 82, if you look that up I think you'll fins that that's pretty much accurate.

I tried to alleviate the problem by making the game's worldscale minimum 100, the maximum 400 and the default 200.

What if you took a territory from Mars, and placed it on the moon? And got rid of the two Earth territories on the moon?

I guess that could work, but I kind of want the unique strategical effects of each Earth territory having a piece of the moon as well.

Well possibly just going with 2 Mars territories might balance it a bit better, or try sticking a 4th onto the earth? The other thing you might try is giving just 1 portion of the moon to the smallest Mars territory. Im just throwing a few ideas out there cause Ive really enjoyed playing this mod so far, but its just very difficult to play as that territory.

What if I gave the green moon territory to the small Mars country?

Yeah Ive just tried that out there and it seems then you would be able to fit everything nicely in Smile . Again I think that could add another interesting mechanic to the game with both earth and mars having a piece of the moon.
