Well, I was bored and thought I'd try to mod something. First ever mod for me!
Ok, old man xander has had the best lawn in the neighborhood for a long time but he's kept it meticulously treated for pests. However, his lawn care contract has expired (unbeknownst to him) and he's been on extended vacation for quite some time. Now is your chance to take control of this prime habitat! But oh noes! Other insect communities have seized the opportunity too!
Time to gather your forces and wage all out war! Set your ant hills and bee hives, place your butterfly lookouts, and the send in the spiders and beetles, launch hornets and bumble bees, sneak up with tunneling ants, and bring down those poisoned stingers with your very own supply of Raid!
I've just started this and plan to set up a whole map of xanders lawn complete with Bermuda grass, water hose, garden, and bird bath. Aww, he loves to watch the birds. So far I'm still working out the "units". I haven't even bothered to do the blur's yet. We'll see how long this takes... Flame lightly, cause these bugs don't handle fire too well.
- Nuke = Poisoned Stinger
- Silo
- APS Mode = Raid Can
- Poisoned Stinger Mode = Large Ant Hill
- Airbase = Bee Hive
- Radar = Butterfly on flower
- Battleship = Spider
- Carrier = Beetle
- Sub
- Passive/Active mode = Tunneling Ant
- SRPS Mode = Emerging Ant
- Fighter = Hornet
- Bomber = Bumble Bee

Well, what could be scarier than a swarm of bees with that angry look or hordes of spiders on the march? How about the thought of a ant army suddenly appearing out of the ground to throw poison stingers at your poor defenseless larvae? Oh wait, you do have that can of raid! Better not let any of that deadly spray near your own nests though...

Hm, a random event trigger would be useful here, so that once in the game suddenly the owner reappears, kills loads, then leaves again |

Some new images, enjoy. (more to come) Will probably make the units more visible. I also need to "clean up" the tool tip text here and there.

Ok, some slight changes. I made the Hornet easier to differentiate from the Bumble Bee in combat. I'm still not happy with it but at least you can spot the difference without having to really look.
Things to do: - Enlarge/thicken Spider, possibly fill in the abdomen/head with color (?)
- Thicken the unit lines for better visibility
- Make Beetle payload more visible
- Correct "Be" to "Bee"
- Make the tunneling ant look more "stealthy", perhaps with a > for the tunnel (?)
- Change the blur image for each unit
- Change "Defcon 5-1" to something more appropriate (?)
- Mod the tool bar buttons
- Change world map to Henderson's Lawn.

It's looking very cool
Perhaps the countdown could just be to the day xander returns to his overrun garden (in fewer words...). Also, while I understand what you're getting at with ant 'vibration' perhaps something to do with antennae or pheromones would be more natural/intuitive? Just a thought.
EDIT: Also, make sure (if possible) you change the toolbar button label 'people' to 'bugs' |

Interesting idea. I like it. Too bad the Alien Saucer isn't playable, that could be a Pitts crop duster .

I was thinking about larvae instead but don't know yet.

I haven't put too much thought into that yet. I was really just messing around trying to work out how to mod this thing. I didn't want to try and create/help make something really nice like the solar system mod with 0 experience. How to deal with ants in a tunnel attacking other insects above ground...
Edit: Perhaps "Surprise Swarm Attack" mode or something similar? |
