Hello everyone Smile

defpwn is a simple mod allowing you to play as Australia (not like the Australian map mod - this is a modification of the normal map).

Changelist:

* corrected the population numbers in cities.dat for Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea (waaaayyy too low, updated based on the CIA factbook)
* removed africa as a territory and re-edited the bmp to cover Australia instead.
* I drew in state boundaries for all the states and territories of Australia.
* I was going to put Alice Springs and had a better idea - instead you'll find Pine Gap, slightly west of Alice Springs, but I just stuck on AP's population + some more to make it a viable target Wink

Some other bits of info:

I was too lazy to stick in Papua New Guinea and New Zealand for this release (in one territory with Australia). But I updated their populations for a reason - that's a coming feature. I think it could be balanced too, Australia is so isolated so it has an instant advantage, but having New Zealand and Papua New Guinea on the outskirts would make them easy targets, perhaps evening it out.

I'm totally new to Defcon modding, bear with me if this is of completely noobish quality.

Credit to DoctorMobius for the air raid siren mod.. I thought it was so awesome that I'd stick it in here too, I love it.

Why did we name it defpwn? Why not auscon or defaus or something generically obvious like that? It's because in the future we want to go further with the mod, make some more hardcore changes etc. But this is our preliminary work, getting Australia in Defcon, as opposed to the standalone Australia map, because interstate nuclear war in Australia just isn't cool (nor even remotely feasible). Nuking other countries as Australia is Wink

I ran into technical problems and was unable to mod the menu like I wanted it (Defcon kept crashing after I loaded my file with the mod-manager..). I also was confused when it came to adding additional cities. Australia is completely imbalanced, due to population proportions, Sydney has something like 34 million people in a normal game. I added heaps of additional cities and towns with the ModSuite but no cigar, they wouldn't show up. Thats why it's missing Darwin and Hobart, but more importantly it is missing the Gold Coast, Newcastle, Geelong, Cairns, Wollongong etc.. maybe I'll work it out for next release.

maybe u should have them all as playable territories and 1 territory isn't used?

I think what you want to do isn't possible, world idiot. The game only allows for six territories (defined in russia.bmp, asia.bmp, europe.bmp, africa.bmp, northamerica.bmp and southamerica.bmp, respectively). Defining a seventh territory would require the game to read some other territory image, and as of yet, this isn't possible ...

Nice mod!
but Australia needs more cities as the population is not spread out enough and if you hit one city you get like 10 mega kills.

Sorry about the delay, I've added this to the modlist. Kudos for being the mod best packaged for the modlist; zip contents/structure was perfectly fitting, as was the naming of the screenshots. Thank you! Smile
