-------------------------------------
Advance Wars : Defcon Strike
------------------------------------
Current Version (0.91)

Linkage: adwars.zip
(Hosting provided by zanzer7, for which he must be thanked)

:The Pitch:
Combining two pick-up-and-play strategy titles with a lighthearted vibe on destruction, AdWars:DS is a graphics mod for Defcon using a unit and icon set inspired by the graphics from Intelligent Systems marvellous Advance Wars titles.

I've called this Ver0.91 since I'm still not 100% sure of my graphics. I'm going to play with them for a few days and make a few adjustments, taking any comments posted below on board, this being my first mod an' all. Still, I wanted to get a version out and ready, so here she is.

Enjoy,
Ross

Thanks for the comments guys - I really didn't expect quite that much enthusiasm! In the interests of maintaining suspense, I'm posting another pair of screen shots of my progress:
Cities and Carriers:

The nuke graphic, based on a Black Bomb (for the record)

There's still a fair few graphics to go, but I do need to sleep from time to time - As furtim points out, it'll be up once I'm happy with it Very Happy Until then, why aren't you working on you're own mod? What's that you say? You have Real Life(tm) to deal with? Bah humbug... Wink

First post appended for posterity Razz

Combining my two favourite war-is-horrific-but-that-doesn't-mean-we-can't-have-light-hearted-fun games (it's a special genre), I'm cooking up a little graphical doodah for Defcon inspired by Advance Wars units, viz;

So far I've only worked on air units/base but it's coming along nicely and is the perfect antidote to all those beautifully created mods we're getting at the moment... Note the upside down plane in the screen shot... Ah well, it's a style, after a fashion.

Two of my favourite strategy games put together can only mean a good thing.

REMORSELESS BUMBPAGE!!!!

Which is to say, look at teh first posting. Yes, teh.

[By the by, I'd never before noticed that some factions have all their units icons as mirror images of the 'master' image. It just struck me while I was capturing screens of Africa that things didn't look like how I drew them... Funky]

Hmmm... Yes, hosting would be good - if you can bear all 123kb of it! Curiously, I downloaded it quite happily, but I suppose my computer isn't objective.

<Right, figured out where I went wrong. Seems Filebucket is cleverer than I thought. The above link should now work for everyone who isn't me too! On the other hand, I'm not sure how far I trust Filebucket, so if you could host it, go ahead.>

While playing this great mod, it's a tad difficult to differentiate between Bombers and Fighters. Could you perhaps design a Bomber icon based on the Stealth jet from AWDS?

This is a quite sensible idea, especially as the Bombers in stock Defcon have that stealthy look to them, as well.
