Bouncing officers

Postby Jimmy D » Wed Sep 01, 2004 1:35 am

When an officer (possibly darwinians as well, need to check) is given an order that takes him through a mine, when he reaches the mine he will start moving in an erratic path, moving towards the mine and 'bouncing' off of it, until he eventually gets around the mine.

This is especially apparent when creating an officer to move a darwinian to an empty terminal on a mine the opposite side to the darwinian.

May be something to do with the pathfinding of officers atm.

This is a problem that has been noted in a few various posts regarding squad and darwinian behaviour.
It would seem that for now the units are using a very simple pathfinding algorithm, something along the lines of "Go straight there, if there's an obstacle, move a little and try again.", which would explain the 'humping' effect that can be seen when they are around buildings.

This kind of pathfinding behavior is still happening in P1 B5 Win32
